Heath & Safety

Industrial and automotive lubricating oils present minimal risk to health provided suitable precautions are observed while handling. These products are neither classified for transport or under the 1993 CHIP regulations.

Protective Measures During Handling

Wear impervious gloves, or use a recommended barrier cream during handling. Petroleum products may give rise to dermatitis upon contact with sensitive skin, or after long periods of contact. Non protected areas should be washed.

Spillage and Disposal

Spillages should be contained and absorbed using suitable materials. Soiled clothing should be sent for laundering immediately. There is evidence that the carcinogenic property of mineral oil, although negligible in the unused state, increases during use. This is particularly true of used petrol engine oils. Disposal of waste oils must therefore be carried out by a reputable waste disposal contractor.
